Atlanta City Guide About us
Atlanta has a humid subtropical climate. Winters are very cold with temperatures below freezing for much of the time, but the daytime weather is mild enough to sit outdoors, with only an occasional snowfall. Summers, by contrast, can be hot and humid with heat wave spells lasting days at a time. With this moderate Atlanta, Georgia weather, outdoor sports and cultural activities can take place year round.

Atlanta is the leading financial, retail, industrial, and communications center in the southeastern United States. Atlanta's wide variety of beautiful, blossoming trees earns it the name Dogwood City. Atlanta is large enough to find the right community and life style for you. There are 20 distinct counties and smaller neighborhoods within these counties. This has resulted in a wide range of lifestyles for single young professionals, or two income families with or without children.

The city is also an important educational and cultural center, home to more than 30 institutions of higher learning, including Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Morehouse and Spellman Colleges. Atlanta is a business center and currently serves as the national and international headquarters for Fortune 500 companies such as Delta Airlines, Home Depot, Georgia Pacific, and Coca-Cola and many more. It's a great hub of business activity. It is also a regional center for nightlife, entertainment and sports attractions.

For shopping, Atlanta is a great place to end your tour of the USA. You will find a variety of retailers including upscale and funky as well as discount outlets. Sports fans will appreciate the variety of major league events in Atlanta. The NFL Atlanta Falcons play football, the National League Atlanta Braves play baseball and the NBA Atlanta Hawks play basketball in the city.

Atlanta is governed by a mayor and a city council. The city council consists of 15 representatives—one from each of the city's twelve districts and three at-large positions. Atlanta has enough tourist attractions and entertainment options to keep you busy for quite a few days. In 1951, the city received the All-America City Award, due to its rapid growth and high standard of living in the southern U.S.
